Another favourite quote from a book that I didn't really like.

“We don't have a plan, we just do our best to get through the day, because there'll be another one coming along tomorrow.”
― Fredrik Backman, Anxious People

“Because the terrible thing about becoming an adult is being forced to realize that absolutely nobody cares about us, we have to deal with everything ourselves now, find out how the whole world works. Work and pay bills, use dental floss and get to meetings on time, stand in line and fill out forms, come to grips with cables and put furniture together, change tires on the car and charge the phone and switch the coffee machine off and not forget to sign the kids up for swimming lessons. We open our eyes in the morning and life is just waiting to tip a fresh avalanche of "Don't Forget!"s and "Remember!"s over us. We don't have time to think or breathe, we just wake up and start digging through the heap, because there will be another one dumped on us tomorrow. We look around occasionally, at our place of work or at parents' meetings or out in the street, and realize with horror that everyone else seems to know exactly what they're doing. We're the only ones who have to pretend. Everyone else can afford stuff and has a handle on other stuff and enough energy to deal with even more stuff. And everyone else's children can swim.”

 Wild at heart

The book that really spoke to my heart in December. It calls men to be adventure. I wonder why I picked up this book when clearly, it is for men to discover the secret of their souls. Anyway, it spoke to me.

Adventure.

Yep, just one word was gleaned from the entire book.

The same word was mentioned by my aunty.

I am to be adventurous, take risks and be courageous.

The Silent Patient

Love that doesn’t include honesty doesn’t deserve to be called love.

Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive, and will come forth later, in uglier ways.

Beautiful quotes from 'Everything I never told you', by Celest Ng

"James would think back to this day in the swimming pool, this first disappointment in his son, this first and most painful puncture in his fatherly dreams"

'Lydia had nothin to keep her mind off the mother-shaped hole in her world."

"She felt drowned in the incredible wrongness of the moment that she should be here, so far away from them."

" James wants to snatch the words back out of the air, like moths, but the've already crawled into his son's ears; he can see it in Nath's eyes, which have gone shiny and hard, like glass."

"Don't ever smile if you don't want to, she said."

Grief

“God has not been trying an experiment on my faith or love in order to find out their quality. He knew it already. It was I who didn't. In this trial He makes us occupy the dock, the witness box, and the bench all at once. He always knew that my temple was a house of cards. His only way of making me realize the fact was to knock it down.”

― C.S. Lewis, A Grief Observed

Every year, it's like that.
Every year, I lose something or someone.
Every year, God moulds and reshapes my heart.
Wait, I think it's more like, every year, God shape a bit of my heart and shaves a bit of it away.
When will my heart be shaped perfectly?

Adam Elsheimer - The Flight into Egypt, detail

" I don't believe that blood makes a family; kin is the circle you create. hand tied tight. There is something to shared genetics, but the questions is, what exactly is that something? It matters that I didn't grow up with my father. It's kind of like having one leg, that's half inch shorter than the other. You can walk, but there will be a dip.

- An American Marraige by Tayari Jones

I have yet to learn how to write a book review on any book and so, this is my attempt.

This is a story about how an incarceration of a black man affects not only him but also, the people who love him. Of course, it always makes sense that the innocent prisoner is the one who is more affects and rightly so as he says “I try to see her side of things, but it’s hard to weep for anyone who is out in the world living their dream,” but one cannot help but wondered, what's the impact on those who are on the outside. We all like to think of the ideal notion that the incarcerated man will walk out free and the loving wife will run into his arms and everything will go back to normal, right how it was, before injustice had happened. The reality is that everyone moves together with time. If we are not moving, that would mean that we are buried deep. Life is puzzling and sad, I wish it was not but I am only proven wrong time after time.

" No, it is not remarkable that Everest did not yield to the first few attempts; indeed it would have been very surprising nd not a little sad if it had, for that is not the way of great mountains. Perhaps, we had becomes a little arrogant with our fine new technique of ice claw and rubber slipper, out age o easy mechanical conquest. We had forgotten that the mountains still holds the master card, that it will grant success only in its own good time. Why else does mountaineering retain it deep fascination." -

Into Thin Air, by Jon Krakauer

I am slightly in love with this book for all the wrong reason and well, some right ones. Guilty for being fascinated by horrific events that plagued the climbers and their family. Inspired by the misguided quests to conquer nature and challenged to pursue a more harrowing task in my life.

" But Jesus sent a message loud and clear. We are His temple. We do not turn in a certain direction to pray. We are not bound by having to go into a building so that we can commune with God. THere are no unique postures and times and limitations that restrict our access to God. My relationship with God is intimate and personal. The Christian does nto go to the temple to worship. THe Christian takes the temple with him or her. Jesus lifts us beyond the building and pay, the human body the highest compliment by making it His dwelling place, the place where He meets with us. Even today, He would overturn the tables of those who make it a marketplace for their own lust, greed and wealth."

" There was once a boy named Milo who didn't know what to do with himself.- not just sometimes, but always.
When he was in school he longed to be out, and when he was out he longed to be in. On the way he thought about coming home, and coming hoe he thought about going. Wherever he was, he wished he were somewhere else, and when he got there he wondered why he'd bothered. Nothing really interested him-least of all the things that should have. "

The Syrophoenician woman with a demon-possessed daughter.
" She's not sayinh, " Lord, give me what I deserve on the basis of my goodness," She 'staying, " Give me what I don't deserve on the basis of your goodness-- and I need it now."

" She appears to understand the purpose of Israel's Messiah better than Israel does. Her pluck and persistence are a testimony to her trust in the sufficiency  and surplus of Jesus; his provision for the disciples and Israel will be abundant enough to provide for one such as herself.... what an irony. Jesus seeks desperately to teach his chosen disciples yet they are dull and uncompromising; Jesus is reluctant to even speak to a walk on pagan woman and after one sentence she understands his mission and receives his unambiguous commendation... how is this possible? The answer is that the woman is the first person in mark to hear and understand a parable of Jesus... that she answer Jesus from within the parable that is, in the terms which Jesus addressed her, indicates that she is the first person in the Gospel to hear the word of Jesus to her. "

Book review

I am so pleased with myself for finishing a novel by John Grisham titled, 'The Guardians'.
Haven't been keeping up with the hashtag.
But the purpose of the hashtag is to remind me that I am not as bad as I think I am. ahh, don't ask me why.
