" I don't believe that blood makes a family; kin is the circle you create. hand tied tight. There is something to shared genetics, but the questions is, what exactly is that something? It matters that I didn't grow up with my father. It's kind of like having one leg, that's half inch shorter than the other. You can walk, but there will be a dip.

- An American Marraige by Tayari Jones

I have yet to learn how to write a book review on any book and so, this is my attempt.

This is a story about how an incarceration of a black man affects not only him but also, the people who love him. Of course, it always makes sense that the innocent prisoner is the one who is more affects and rightly so as he says “I try to see her side of things, but it’s hard to weep for anyone who is out in the world living their dream,” but one cannot help but wondered, what's the impact on those who are on the outside. We all like to think of the ideal notion that the incarcerated man will walk out free and the loving wife will run into his arms and everything will go back to normal, right how it was, before injustice had happened. The reality is that everyone moves together with time. If we are not moving, that would mean that we are buried deep. Life is puzzling and sad, I wish it was not but I am only proven wrong time after time.
